Someone Kicked The Cord
I stand at the end of the street
It was brilliantly lit
Dazzling gold and neon
Lighting every path
Virtually no shadows were possible
It impressed and wowed the crowd
It was visible from all angles
Spires of gold and silver rose
High above the center square
Lit in tinsel and glitter
Lights flashing and sparkling
Pointing the ways to many pleasures
Many wonderful sights and sounds
Smells and tastes and yes
Touches!
Cars and buses drove through passages
Under arches and through tunnels
Each one lit more brightly than the one before
All leading to the center
Except there was no center
But a line
It was all brilliant and flashy
Multicolored and vibrant
And the energy I could feel
Drove me and everyone through the night
And through the week
With excitement and delight
It all went away
It’s off now
I don’t see anything
I’m sure it’s just temporary
I’m sure someone just kicked the cord
And it came unplugged
If someone, anyone
Could just take the end
Find the plug
And plug it in again
Restoring the beauty
Making the fountains shoot jets of happiness
Causing the shows to go on
Bringing the ringing and shining
The disco balls and lights and music
If someone could just do that
I’d be eternally grateful

That was me. Tripped over the cord. My bad. I’m clumsy like that.
Oh, that’s okay.
Spank you for forgiving me.
